I had the opportunity to attend Disability Advocacy Day in Wisconsin. It was a great experienced to meet my representatives and put a personal story and face to important issues. Both representatives were very attentive and truly cared about us and the issues that effect us. I cannot urge people enough to go and talk with your representatives. They genuinely care about their constituents, and will work to make important improvements.

We held a listening session for Hispanic parents to get ideas on how to build a better respite program for their community. We had almost 30 parents come to talk with us about building a culturally inclusive respite program in Madison, WI. The event was a great success. Most parents didn’t know that there were options for them to get a break, but after a discussion about what respite is and explaining that their children will be well taken care of, the parents became very excited to start this program. Hearing first-hand stories and struggles gave us a renewed energy and urgency to get this program running.
